Discussing sustainable food systems at the FAO in Rome

Since 2014, the Center has collaborated with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Sustainable Agroecosystems Group to offer a three-day course for ETH Zurich Master’s students at the FAO headquarters in Rome.

In the current 2024 course, the students discover and explore how true cost of food accounting could be a supportive concept to redefine policies and measures to increase sustainability of food systems locally and globally.

Through practical experiences, group discussions, and interactions with experts from international organizations, students are encouraged to review and reflect about how true cost of food accounting includes the concepts of justice, equity, and resilience. And how it can support a redistribution of benefits in the food system and be applied at a global level.

During a 3-day workshop in Rome, the students met with and discussed with experts from the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to United Nations organizations and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
