As of May 2017, people in Switzerland will be able to buy insects such as mealworms, crickets, and locusts for consumption. In a lively discussion on the Radio SFR1 show "Forum," listeners posed their questions and concerns to a panel of four experts, including WFSC member Alexander Mathys. Mathys comments that insects are one of many possible foods of the future, espcially as they are a sustainable protein source.

The Swiss food industry is already gearing up to provide insect food products to consumers. For example, Coop is now developing a external pagemeal worm burger with producer firm Essento.
